Went down the ‘tank’ deck to see the laundry facilities and took some photo’s. The whole machine doesn’t fit in one camera frame. The drum only is about 6 m long. The operator of this big machine showed me around, very proud that I asked, he gets $ 100,-- a month more because he can run this machine. He is from Indonesia. He and his family can live easily on the money he makes he say’s. He supports the Dutch football team, but he lost $100 in the bets going on the ship. They call us Blanda in Indonesia he said with a big smile on his face, the nick name for Hollanders in Indonesia. But in the corridor or restaurant he calls me ‘Sir John’ and ‘Mister’ so everybody can hear it. The dirty wash goes in one and - yes of course - comes out the other end. Just like your breakfast in the morning, and we had a little laugh. It goes through the machine in several stages. From the washing machine it falls on a surveyor belt , this drops it in a elevator, and the elevator shifts it in the dryer. When dry, another surveyor belt drops it in a big container. It’s manually packed into a trolley and pushed to the Ironing machine. Again manually put on a permanent running surveyor belt and on the other side folded and stored away. Apart from this big machine there are individual machines for delicate washes. These can take 125 kg at the time.

    Jan And Susan:

What about your laundry - do you have to do it yourself?

Many thanks for your postcard received on our return from a two week stay in England.

During that time we were fortunate enough to get tickets to visit the Olympic Park. Very interesting but very big and very busy. Nevertheless we are glad that we could experience the olympic atmosphere because our efforts to get tickets for a couple of events failed.

We had also witnessed the torch arriving in Essex on our previous visit to England.

    All the best love
    Jan and Susan

    Emily:

    Hoi Joeb!
Leuk om wat te vertellen over de was op zo'n grote boot. Ik had er geen idee van, ik ben wel benieuwd of alle sokken, hemden en onderbroeken weer bij de eigenaren terecht komen.
    Hier is alles oké.
    Groetjes, Emily

    Louise:

    Lieve Joeb,
all well aboard mister Joeb the piper? Still going strong?
    Louise
