On deck 5 all the way round is a jogging track. When I’m in the “Dream World” parade dressed up as a kind of Chinese mandarin, we always take the jogging track to get to the other side of the ship. It is a one way track, a lane for the runners and a lane for (speed)walkers. It goes right behind the Aqua theatre, during the shows you can see the joggers passing by. It doesn’t go round the mooring deck in front; otherwise it would have been a lap of 800 m. You’re surprised how many people go to the gym every day or run over these track. I keep telling myself that I’m fit enough and can cover the same distance in my good speed as well. Deck 5 is where the lifeboats are as well and from the assembling points you easily can line people up to get efficiently in the life boats if necessary.
Last Saturday when the ship left Fort Lauderdale I stood on the deck watching this enormous ship turning and leaving the port. Coast Guards where playing with their little boats on the waves round the ship like kids. Three big engines, (3x 300 horse power) hanging on the back of these little ‘dinghies’. The big buildings along the coast are getting smaller and smaller, until you don’t see them anymore. A man started talking to me about the colour of the water, clear dark blue water. I was telling him about the colours of the waters in Nassau, Virgin Islands and St Maarten. He asked if I was kind of living on the ship, told him yes and that I’d done the complete cruise 4 times. He didn’t notice I was crew.... even with my badge on. I told him what I was doing on the ship. He was a ship clearance broker and drummer and he would like to do the same when his kids finished school. I didn’t tell him about the interviews and audition you have to do.
